Au Nord Est du Kirghizstan, enclavé dans les hautes montagnes, l’Issyk Kul est un des lacs les plus profonds au monde. Des épaves métalliques sont échouées sur ses rivages, comme des monstres marins d’un autre temps. C’est le port désaffecté de Balyktchy. Ici se loge la fierté d’un amiral de la marine soviétique. Figure joyeuse, combative et mélancolique, Boris Vassilievitch Tchoumakov incarne ce qui reste de l’homme soviétique 30 ans après la chute de l’URSS, alors qu’un nouveau directeur vient troubler le sommeil du port pour le reconvertir en station balnéaire.

In the northeast of Kyrgyzstan, perched in high mountains, Lake Issyk Kul is one of the five deepest lakes in the world. On its shores, dark constructions of cement and steel meddle with olds wrecks. It is the port of Balyktchy, abandoned for years and slowly starting now its conversion into a resort. Here lies the pride of an admiral of the Soviet navy : Boris Vassilievitch Chumakov. Joyful, restless, yet terribly melancholic figure, the Admiral reveals himself to be some sort of allegory of what remains of the soviet man 30 years after the fall of USSR

Nel nord-est del Kirghizistan, circondato da alte montagne, il lago Issyk Kul è uno più profondi al mondo. Sulle sue rive giacciono relitti metallici, come mostri marini di altri tempi. Questo è il porto dismesso di Balyktchy. Qui giace l’orgoglio di un ammiraglio della marina sovietica. Figura allegra, combattiva e malinconica, Boris Vassilievitch Tchoumakov incarna ciò che resta dell’uomo sovietico 30 anni dopo la caduta dell’URSS, quando un nuovo direttore viene a turbare il sonno del porto per trasformarlo in un resort balneare.
