J’avais entendu parler d’Eudaldo, un peintre chilien, auteur d’un millier de toiles, disparu depuis longtemps. On m’avait donné une adresse au bord de la Loire, au numéro 640 d’une route qui n’existait déjà plus. Personne n’était venu ici depuis des dizaines d’années. Tout était resté là, comme si quelqu’un avait fui.

I had heard of a Chilean painter, author of a thousand paintings, who had disappeared long ago. I had been given an address on the banks of the Loire, at number 640 of a road that no longer existed. No one had been here for decades. Everything had remained there, as if someone had fled.
